Dogs With Jobs: Border Collies Protect the Skies!
We here at the Baby Animal Zoo know that ever since our article on the brave baby animals of the Beagle Brigade, you’ve been chomping at the bit for more animals with cool jobs! And it just so happens that we have in store for you another totally cool and adorable dog that does another very important job at airports all over the United States!
Border Collies are one of the smartest breeds of dogs around, and it starts from the time they are tiny and at their cutest! Baby collies are sent to train in special schools, and then have the opportunity to do a job of a dog’s dreams! These amazing pups grow up to be smart, strong BIRD CHASERS! That’s right, look at the photo above, and you’ll get an idea of their amazing dog job. Bird strikes (that is – when a bird collides mid-air with an airplane) cause hundreds of millions of dollars in damages and thousands of hours of repair time to major airlines every year – and as you might expect, the highest probability areas for bird strikes are where airplanes are concentrated: around airports! So these cool dogs get to live the dream, as every day they are brought out to the fields surrounding airports, and let loose to chase all manner of geese, ducks and other pesky birds.
It’s every dog’s dream: chasing birds all day long, and it’s real! Of course, we aren’t going to load you up with pictures of only grown up working collies, check out all of the adorable fuzzy pups below.
